This error occurs especially on Windows 8 running netbooks. The main cause is that most netbooks running Windows 7 or Windows 8 don’t allow any “non optimal” resolution to be selected. Therefore, Windows 8 will only allow you to set a maximum screen resolution of 1024×600.
In order to use metro apps on Windows 8, you will need to set a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. There are two ways to do this on a basic Intel GMA based netbook:
1. You can modify a Windows registry file which will activate downscaling. For this, you will have to follow the steps described in this article:
2. You can download and install iRezSetup 1.0. This software will do your registry settings for you. Plus, if you will ever want to return to the Windows Optimal Resolution Settings, you will be able to use iRezSetup 1.0 to disable your previews settings.
